Parenting. the most honourable job in the world, and no guidebook, course, list of instructions, how-to's, or warnings. Parenting is joyful, blissful, meaningful and fun, and it isn't easy. Throughout all the joys and success we experience and relish with our children throughout their years, from the day they're born, from infant, to toddler, to tween and teen, it's a permanent, consistent, ever-moving stream of parenting, done well, with love, tenacity, purpose, empowerment, resilience, and happiness and joy one can not describe. And then, one day, it happens...
That day, whatever it was, was too much, and suddenly, you're overwhelmed. Their emotional dysregulation is off the charts. They've pushed your buttons. They were unruly. They were disrespectful. Time-outs aren't working. The house is upside down. Dishes are still in the sink from yesterday, laundry from a week ago still hasn't been done... the overwhelm is endless, and you feel like you're a horrible parent.
Parenting is hard. It brings out the best in us, and the worst. That's ok. You're human, but when it so completely overwhelms you, and causes you angst, upset, to yell, become anxious or even depressed, it's time to take a step back and collect yourself. Is it time to ask for help? It may be, especially if you're not getting the help, or support, at home that you need.
There is help, and the best thing of all, is that more successful parenting is within your control and power. In fact, it's all up to you and you are completely empowered to turn it all around. Children aren't bad. Their behaviour is. Others don't actually make you mad. They may make you feel bad, or mad, but no one actually makes you mad; we allow ourselves to become that way. So right or wrong, good or bad, you're always leading by example. If you're yelling, always on edge, or doling out punishments time after time, change is within your power, and your change in you, elicits a change in others.
I will teach you how to how to reclaim your parenting, and your sense of self, and teach you the skills and techniques you need to be heard, and to have the emotional balance to parent with kindness and firmness. I will teach you how to have a better relationship with your children, whatever their age, using sensible, easy, and very implementable strategies and techniques that will change your relationship with yourself and your children for years to come.
It's all within your control, and I am here to help, guide and mentor you.
